Svajerløbet — The Danish Cargo Bike Race

Apr 20, 2009

Making a quick trip in to the city for a bit of commercial activity on Saturday, Stine and I made a brief detour via this year's Danish Cargo Bike Race (Svajerløbet in Danish), in which all inclined compete in a race around a short course in the city on laden cargo bikes — man-powered machines made to haul deceptively large loads around town.

The race consisted of two laps with an unloaded bicycle, then a stop to load on three car tyres and a frantic two further laps to the finish. It's really impressive the speed and handling the modern versions of these bikes can achieve, while also maintaining their originally intended practicality.
